Governmental Perfection
Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)
6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Introduction: After I gave my message last week, I began to think about what does "Governmental Perfection" mean and what does it apply to. The more I thought about it, the broader it became and I wondered if we really understand what government means. I began to think in terms of individual, family, church, Kingdom, and civil governments, how we affect them and how they affect us. And so my message this morning is "2012- Governmental Perfection."
What does government mean?
1. Dictionary: The act or process of governing, especially the control and administration of public policy in a political unit.
2. The office, function, or authority of a governing individual, or body.
3. Administration or management of an organization, business, or institution.
4. Government brings order, safety, and organization to something.
What does perfection mean?
1. Dictionary: The state of being without flaw or defect.
2. An instance of excellence: distinction, merit, virtue.
3. Therefore, "governmental perfection" is administrating and managing ourselves, our families, the church, the Kingdom, and our civil governments in excellence.
Governmental Perfection applies to each of us as individuals.
1. Romans 13:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.
2. First, we submit to God and then to other authorities.
3. All submission must be administrated through Scripture.
Governmental Perfection applies to our families.
1. Husband and father is the head of the household and children.
2. The wife is to submit to her husband.
3. The children honor and obey their parents.
4. The husband and father must be worthy of respect & honor. We are not to obey that which is against Scripture.
Governmental Perfection applies to the Church.
1. Elders, deacons, and pastors govern the local church.
2. The church is not a democracy.
3. Christ is the head of the church which is His body.
4. The church must submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Governmental Perfection applies to the Kingdom.
1. The Kingdom has a King and His Name is Jesus.
2. He will rule until a time when returns all authority back to His Father.
3. The Kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdoms of our God.
Governmental Perfection applies to civil government.
1. Romans 13:1 "the authorities that exist are from God.
2. The reason civil government does not work is that it is either evil or rests upon the wisdom of man.
3. Government must come under the authority of the people.
4. People have authority when they vote.
5. The day will come when "every knee will bow and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord."
Conclusion: It is my hope that 2012 will be a year of "governmental perfection." Excellence in our lives as individuals, as families, for the church, the Kingdom, and for civil governments around the world. God is perfect and a Father of excellence, therefore He desires that we are the same in every aspect of life. Practice excellence as a daily virtue. See that our individual lives and families are managed with perfection, our churches in submission to Christ, we allow Jesus to be King of His Kingdom, and all civil government in submission to God and its people. Let every individual make themselves accountable by voting and 2012 will be a year of "Governmental Perfection."
Close: 1 Peter 2:13-17 (NKJV)
13 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether to the king as supreme, 14 or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men - 16 as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. 17 Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
